2015 – Will Progress be made in the cleaning of the Delaware Inland Bays waters?

The Delaware Inland Bays Watershed is comprised of Rehoboth, Indian River and Little Assawoman Bays. It is a part of the National Estuary Program established by the Clean Water Act and overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) , the Delaware Department of Natural Resources (DNREC) and the watershed manager- the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays. It is heavily polluted with nutrients and bacteria and does not regularly meet the Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) established by the Tributary Action Teams writing the Inland Bays Pollution Control Strategy (PCS) in accordance with the Clean water Act of 1972 and the 2007 legal agreement reached between Delaware and the EPA.

The Inland Bays Foundation’s 2015 Strategy is: To aggressively remove pollution from these waters by finding and promoting existing, low cost (to the taxpayer) solutions that will remove pollutants and provide business opportunities and green jobs for the stakeholders of the watershed. We will do this through Education, Advocacy and Lobbying, and finally if all else fails; through Litigation. Our 2014 Annual Report can be found in the archives of this web site.
